Seaplanes are ‘curious machines’ that attract people’s attention. The ability to rise into the air after leaving the water makes them especially attractive. Also, his landing at sea. The ethnographic material (or raw material) of this work, which addresses the beginnings of naval aviation in Chile (1919-1921), is found mainly in the news and reports that appear at that time in the regional and national press, which allow us to learn about the different operations of hydroplanes and the impact they have on the public. The press has a prominent role in the construction of the popular imagination about these machines and their activities, by disseminating their tests, presentations, raids and, of course, their accidents.
