Abstract

In Chile there has been a proliferation of works focused on the economic elites as the object of empirical research. Most have focused on their transformations, resource mobilisation and networks, while little attention has been paid to knowledge and understanding of their political thinking. This article analyses the political attitudes of large Chilean businesses in the context of a political and social crisis in Chile. It concludes that the top representatives of the employers' organisations have democratic attitudes but with strong elements of political disaffection. In the socio-economic context, the business elite recognizes the presence of a social crisis, but is adamant about changing the "pure market economy".
