The article reviews public policies on aging in Chile from 1990 to 2022, based on the four pillars of the Comprehensive Policy for Positive Aging: healthy, safe, institutional, and participatory. To do so, different areas of intervention were analyzed for each pillar, such as nutrition, long-term care facilities, pension reforms, active aging laws, sexuality, public transportation, and age-friendly cities. The results indicate that these areas of intervention face challenges in their implementation, coverage, effectiveness, and/or social consensus, limiting the impact of public policies on the quality of life of older adults. The conclusions suggest that a coordinated and integrated effort from all levels of the government and institutions is needed to comprehensively and participatively address the issues faced by older adults. Additionally, there is a need to identify and characterize the contributions and limitations of existing interventions and highlight potential research directions in the field.
