Burnout Syndrome in leaders and subordinates: a job demands-resources model

This study had three objectives: 1. To test the moderating role of the leader or subordinates occupation on the predictive relationship of emotional demands, emotional dissonance, conflicts and burnout syndrome (BS); 2. Test the mediating effect of emotional intelligence in the predictive relationship of emotional demands, emotional dissonance and conflicts over the BS in leaders; 3. Test the mediating effect of leadership behavior in the predictive relationship of emotional demands, emotional dissonance and conflicts over the SB in the subordinates. The sample consisted of 581 participants, 379 subordinates and 202 leaders who answered a questionnaire on sociodemographic and labor data, Spanish Burnout Inventory, 3IC Triple Conflict Scale and two subscales of emotional work. Specifically for leaders, Emotional Intelligence and for subordinates the Leadership Behavior Scale. The results evaluated through structural equations revealed that the role of subordinates has a moderating role in the relationship between Emotional dissonance and the BS. The dimensions of Sociability and Self-Motivation of Emotional intelligence functioned as mediators between Emotional dissonance and BS in the group of leaders, and empowering leadership acted as a mediator between task-focused Cognitive Conflict and BS.

Nomophobia and depressive, stress and anxiety symptoms: comparative and correlational study

The use of smartphones, an important resource for communication and work, has increased substantially in recent years. However, excessive use may be associated with an increase in depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms, and even the fear of not being connected (nomophobia) may also be increasing. The objective was to investigate smartphone use, nomophobia, depression, stress, and anxiety symptoms through a quantitative survey. A total of 157 internet users over 18 years old residing in Brazil participated. The Nomophobia Questionnaire – Brazilian Version (NMP-Q), the Depression Symptoms Intensity Survey (LIS-D), the Stress Symptoms Intensity Survey (LIS-E), the Anxiety Symptoms Intensity Survey (LIS-A), and a Sociodemographic Questionnaire were used. The results indicated that there were statistically significant differences between symptoms and sociodemographic variables (gender, marital status, education level, employment status, and family income), but not in nomophobia. There was a moderate correlation between the declared amount of time and symptoms of anxiety, stress, and depression, but not nomophobia.

Sociostructural variables and cognitive functioning: A contribution to good practice using WISC-V

This research examines the effect of sociostructural variables such as sex, ethnicity, parental education, and urban-rural origin on the Full Scale Intelligence Quotient (FSIQ) of the WISC-V in a sample of 480 Chilean schoolchildren. Factorial ANOVAs and MANOVAs were conducted to determine the main effects and interactions among sociostructural variables on FSIQ and its seven subtests. The results in the total sample reflect that only urban-rural origin had a significant effect on FSIQ. At the subtest level, five main effects were found according to origin and only one according to sex. In the rural subsample, no main effect was significant for FSIQ, and in the subtests, one effect was found for schooling, one for ethnicity, and one double and one triple interaction. This research highlights the role of sociostructural variables as contributing factors in explaining differences in overall cognitive performance and specific domains. The results are discussed, and suggestions are provided to enhance best practices in psychological assessment using the WISC-V.

Transformation experiences of psychology students in Uruguayan prisons

In this article we present the results of a research that investigates the experiences of students imprisoned during their university education in the Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at the University of the Republic, Uruguay. For this purpose, we use a qualitative methodology with a narrative approach, in which through meetings with the participants we seek to know the construction they have of themselves, as well as the scope and effects that university study generates in their lives. As results, we discuss the transformations involved in the process of becoming university students. The possibility of accessing the university inside the prison was a transformation of their immediate reality and future projections, which at times, makes them forget their condition as prisoners and they can inhabit other categories such as students and university students.

The challenges of being a woman in the field of rural extension in Corrientes and Misiones, Argentina

The objective of this work is to describe the obstacles that rural extension workers from Corrientes and Misiones, Argentina, encountered in carrying out their work due to the fact that they were women in two national rural development institutions. This is a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study in which 15 semi-structured interviews were carried out with rural female extension agents. It was analyzed constructing categories of the information collected from the Atlas software - Ti. The results describe three categories taken from the extension workers' stories: 1- Work Difficulties with Colleagues, 2- Work Difficulties with Rural Producers and 3- Time, as an important factor for the transformation of these obstacles. In conclusion, the importance of creating public policies and institutional interventions that help make the gender perspective visible from a comprehensive perspective in the field of extension and rural development is highlighted. Furthermore, it is suggested that the topic addressed in this work contributes to Gender Studies and Organizational Psychology.

Collective health in a rural area of Mendoza: community networks and care practices

This article presents reflections on a research project framed within the collective health perspective in a rural town of Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. In this framework, health-disease processes are understood through a lens of social determination, making it relevant to investigate the dynamics of social production and reproduction. In addition, contributions from rural psychologist invite to clarify the specificities of subjectivity within rural work contexts. The exploration of the subjective meanings associated with daily practices contributes to this aspect. To build this article, conversations with community leaders recorded in a field diary were analyzed under an ethnographic point of view, complemented by observations and personal concerns. This work intends to explore the way of life of the local community, taking into account the relationship with nature, care practices and common production practices. The relationship between care and common is worked on, emphasizing their close connection. It is argued that community networks are formed through the connection of various neighborhood, family and state ties, unified by care practices focused on the reproduction of life.

Health at the Castainho Quilombo in Brazilian Northeast: pathways for a Rural Psychology

The present work is dedicated to research about quilombola health in the community of Castainho, located in the Agreste region of Pernambuco, Brazil. It sought to promote a discussion on health, care and quilombola traditional practices, as it carried out a cartography of the traditional health care practices in the community, analyzing them in dialogue with decolonial thinking, through the narratives of the participants gathered in conversation wheels. This work consists of a qualitative and interventional study, using the logbook and conversation circles as modalities of investigation and intervention. The chosen analysis method is Sense Analytics, which made it possible to reveal the richness of traditional practices for the promotion of care in the quilombo, to discuss the role of health services for the community, and think about of possible paths for a psychology committed to the inherent matters of rural and quilombola life.

The presence of indigenous women in Brazilian universities: a systematic review of the literature

The presence of indigenous students in Brazilian universities is the result of individual and collective struggles for access to an education with equity and quality, which ensures the articulation between the various existing knowledges. The aim of this article is to investigate studies on the presence of indigenous women in Brazilian universities over the last five years. To this end, based on a scoping review, data published between 2018 and 2023 was collected from the following databases: CAPES, SciELO, Scopus and Others. The review followed the guidelines of the PRISMA-ScR protocol and resulted in 09 articles included according to the defined inclusion and exclusion criteria, which underwent a qualitative content analysis process. The results reveal a predominance of themes related to: affirmative action; university as an indigenous territory; challenges for indigenous women at university; and the leading role of indigenous women. Although the presence of indigenous women in Brazilian universities is more active, this does not mean that their presence is without difficulties. We therefore reinforce the need to develop research focused on the specificities of indigenous university women in order to promote reflections and actions that contribute to their inclusion and permanence in higher education.
